As our world slowly fills up with undestructable cell phone batteries, designers Theo Richardson, Charles Brill and Alex Williams of RBW have a simple but brilliant idea to clean up at least some of the pollution that’s turning our planet into a waste heap for the future.

What’s the idea? A safe, ecofriendly cell phone battery and charger that can be used for all models, across all companies.

How, you wonder, has no one thought of it? Probably because we hate nature.

It’s not news that LG is releasing a new line of sexy cell phones (yes, they’re all going to try to be ’iPhone killers’ — and no, probably none of them will succeed) called the KF line. While we’ll have to wait for next week’s CeBIT show to really get all the details, we have wrangled some for the KF750 — codenamed, "Libra."

This is a good first step — as we fully support and celebrate Libras.

What would you say to a phone that has no real features but looks like a ringing glass angel? We say we’ll take it.

In the style of the slick, name-brand phones like the LD Prada, the Samsung Armani and the Apple SexyDial, designer Chris Owens has made one of the slickest phones around by combining our love for glass, things that slide, and illumination.

Are you sold?

We’ve been covering the HD DVD/Blu-Ray battle for the last few weeks now, with Sony delivering a few key blows to Toshiba’s baby, the HD DVD. We also may have, in passing, made a few jokes about Toshiba pulling the plug and, you know, killing aforementioned baby.

So far, Toshiba hasn’t listened and kept on fighting vehemently — however, rumors are coming from someone close to the HD DVD faction at Toshiba says the company is expecting to let the HD DVD die in a few weeks.

Well, now that it may be real, it’s just not funny anymore.

Apparently, today is Green Cell Phone day for us at Devlib.org. Atlas has created a concept cell phone that doesn’t need a battery to run — instead, it uses kinetic energy (much like some watches use) to keep going and going and going and going…

Now, if only the cell phone turned into a sunflower when thrown into a pot of manure…

One of the problems with technology is it just won’t die. Old cell phones, computers and so on lay in our landfills, polluting our planet, acting all smug that you can’t kill them. Well, now British scientists have found a way to make new cellphones not only biodegrade, but also grow a flower while they’re at it.

What’s the best part of the new tech? It makes littering not only acceptable, but a little fun.

Remember the quiet promises of a Google phone? Well, British chip designer, ARM, is supposedly demonstrating a prototype of Google’s Android mobile phone platform in action next week at the world’s biggest wireless fair.
