Acer Aspire Gemstone Blue Notebook Blues You Away

Acer announced their sexy new laptop called the Aspire Gemstone Blue and yes, it blue us away. Oh, puns, how we love thee!

The beautiful blue notebook is equipped with everything from a Blu-ray drive to a true high-definition screen to an airplane engine that can fly you and your friends anywhere your imagination wants to go,and while that last part isn’t true, we’ll still settle for the Blu-ray drive and the HD screen.

Acer_BlWhat else does the notebook have? A lot. With a size somewhere between Dell’s XPS M series and HP’s dv series, the laptop uses CineReal sound (a second generation Dolby Surround), a useful touchdial on the left for multimedia controls, and one model has a 1920×1080 18.4" screen while the second model has a 16" screen that’s also 1920×1080.

The company is advertising 3 hours of playback on the 18.4" and 2.5 hours of movie playback on the 16" inch. Apparently, there’s even an SD version with 720p playback.

Finally, because we’re interested in this sort of thing, the laptop is heavy, at over 9 lbs for the 18.4 incher and almost 8 lbs for the 16 inch — we’re not fans of that, as we like our laptops as slim as a model and as light as a feather (also, a lot like a model.)

Still, we’re thoroughly impressed. HD playback on a laptop? A Blu-ray drive? And all for 1,700 as a starting price point? We love it. We love it so much that without fully playing with it, we recommend it to everyone who needs a powerful laptop that doubles as an entertainment center. It’s great to use if you’re on the go a lot and in need of entertainment and it also ships in a month.

Go to the Acer website and let it blued away.
